(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Fire Department responded to a reported commercial structure fire at 2703 E. Broadway, Unit 240, at approximately 7:53 a.m. on Aug. 25. When firefighters arrived, employees had evacuated themselves. Firefighters found smoke inside of the Five Guys restaurant at the location. Firefighters stretched pre-connected hoselines to the business and searched the entire building. Firefighters located a working fire in a heating, ventilation and air-conditioning unit on the roof. Crews quickly contained the fire and prevented it from extending into the roof structure.

Because of the building’s design, firefighters searched the involved business and adjacent occupancies to confirm that everyone had evacuated and that the fire had not spread to neighboring spaces. The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical and accidental in nature. No injuries were reported among civilians or fi
refighters.
