<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services to purchase new Animal Control space</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display: inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The City of Columbia, in partnership with Boone County, plans to purchase a property for Animal Control and animal shelter operations. Animal Control currently operates at Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) at 1005 W Worley St. and has severe space constraints. The new facility will provide dedicated operational space for staff to keep pace with the growing human and pet population and the correlated increase in need for services.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Public Health and Human Services will continue to contract animal shelter services at the new location. The new location will allow PHHS to improve disease containment and prevent sick animals from transferring out of the facility.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The total cost of the property is $995,000. Of the total, $595,000 will be provided by the City of Columbia, and $400,000 will be provided by Boone County. The property, located at 1300 East Boone Industrial, was formerly a vet clinic and sits on a two-acre lot. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The proposed purchase will be introduced to City Council for First Reading at the regularly scheduled City Council meeting on 9/21/2026. The second council read, along with the opportunity for public comment, will take place on 10/5/2026. If the City Council approves, the City expects to close on the property on 10/9/2026.</span></p></div>
