(COLUMBIA, MO) - The City of Columbia will recognize the work of residents who completed 21 Love Your Block mini-grant projects at the "Health In Nature Festival" on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The Festival will be held from 3-7 p.m. at City-owned property at 108 W. Sexton.

The City of Columbia is one of 16 cities in the 2024-2026 Love Your Block cohort, and the first city in Missouri to participate in the program. Love Your Block provided $40,000 in neighborhood mini-grants as well as funding for staff support for those projects. Funding for Love Your Block is provided by the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University.

The Health In Nature Festival is organized by the Missouri Department of Conservation and will feature an installation of musical sunboxes by artist Craig Colorusso. The event will include informational booths hosted by several local organizations. A short
program will begin at 5:30 p.m. to recognize Love Your Block participants. Ward 1 Councilmember Valerie Carroll will also present a proclamation for Missouri Good Neighbor Week, held Sept. 28 through Oct. 4.

The Health In Nature is free and open to everyone. There is no parking on-site; attendees should plan to park nearby and walk to the event.

Love Your Block mini-grants were used to fund projects for residents and non-projects in central and northeast Columbia. Examples of projects included home repair and clean up in cooperation with ForColumbia, beautification at First Chance for Children, JobPoint, Nora Stewart Early Learning Center, Hickman High School and support for the Douglass Park Neighborhood Festival. A complete list of mini-grant winners can be found at CoMo.gov/volunteer.
