(COLUMBIA, MO) -
On Monday, Oct. 5 at 5:16 a.m., Columbia Fire Department (CFD) companies were dispatched to a search-and-rescue in the general area of Quail Drive near Bass Pro Shop. The victim was able to call 911 for help; however, they were suffering a significant medical emergency that impaired the victim's cognition and awareness.

CFD arrived within six minutes of dispatch and established unified command with the Columbia Police Department. Firefighters and Police Officers began searching for the victim on foot; however, the dark and dense wooded area made the search arduous and time-consuming.

CFD’s Skydio drone launched from Columbia Fire Department Headquarters and was used to locate the subject using state-of-the-art night-vision technology. The patient was successfully rescued from the wooded area within approximately 15 minutes of firefighters and the drone being dispatched. The patient was transported to a local hospital for definitive care.

Two fire companies with six personnel, one CFD pilot and one chief officer responded to this incident.
