[Bonnie View Property/Fairview Park Planning]

It has been just over one year since the last public meeting was held
regarding the development of the Bonnie View property master plan.  As
discussed at that meeting, park planners have used the last 12 months to
meet with specific groups and agencies that have a vested interest in
how the two park properties, Bonnie View and Fairview Park, and the
Audubon property should be developed.   A complete list of organizations
are listed on the department's website, but a summary is listed below:
 
Audubon Society
Fairview Elem School
Fairview PTA
Fairview Community of Christ Church
Sierra Club
Fairview "Neighbors on the Go"
PedNet
Fairview garden plot users
Fairview tennis court users
Lakeshore Estates Neighborhood Association
 
The department is currently working with representatives of the
Missouri Department of Conservation, City of Columbia's Public Works
Department and the City of Columbia's Water & Light Department.  
 
The renewal of the 1/8-cent Park Sales Tax will be on the November 2,
2010 ballot. It will be listed on the ballot as Proposition 1.   The
department is currently waiting on the results of this ballot issue, as
it includes funds for improvements to Fairview Park.  If the ballot
issue passes, $175,000 will be available for the renovation of the
Fairview Park shelter and the possible addition of a playground and
small parking lot.  Since it is desirable that the planning and
construction of the two parks be conducted at one time, further planning
will likely begin after the upcoming holidays.  More information on the
