Office of Cultural Affairs INFO...

ANNUAL ARTS ORGANIZATION FUNDING
At their October 6 meeting, we expect that City Council will authorize
contracts with the 18 local arts agencies that will receive city arts
funding through the OCA’s annual process. We will be sending the
contracts by the end of October, along with instructions for completing
narrative and budget revisions. Organizations must return signed
contracts and required revisions before an initial payment can be made.

SMALL REQUEST ARTS FUNDING
The next deadline for Small Request arts funding is December
10...applications will be for the second quarter of the OCA’s funding,
January-March. Requests may be for up to $500 and must follow the
below-listed guidelines (contact the OCA for a complete listing).
Proposed projects should be innovative, unique and represent a one-time
opportunity for the community. Call 573-874-6386 for an application and
guidelines, or use the on-line form at www.GoColumbiaMo.com (on the
Cultural Affairs page).
●	Funding is limited to one request per project. Multiple projects
from the same agency are allowed.
●	Funds are available to agencies with total annual budgets of no
more than $500,000 and only to arts agencies. Collaborations are
allowed, but only with an arts organization holding a 501c3 status as
the lead agency.
●	OCA does not fund capital outlay or perishable items.

COLUMBIA FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS THANKS
Sincere thanks to the area arts organizations and artists that
participated in the 17th annual Columbia Festival of the Arts on
September 27-28, either by performing on stage, sponsoring a display or
coordinating an activity in the Children’s Art Area...you helped us
make it a great event for the community and visitors!

ARE YOU AN ACCIDENTAL ARTS ADMINISTRATOR?
Are you an ex-volunteer turned director of an arts organization? Did
you major in philosophy or art history? Are you someone with a 9-5 job
who serves as the executive director of an arts organization in your
spare time? Ever wonder how a nice person like yourself ended up like
this?! Well...you’re an accidental arts administrator. Join us for the
Accidental Arts Administrator Workshop, Thursday, November 6, 5:30 to
8:30 p.m. at the city’s Activity and Recreation Center (ARC), 1701 W.
Ash Street. We’ll cover board-related issues, fund raising, marketing
and public relations, planning and accountability. A registration fee
will be charged to cover take-home materials for participants and an
optional dinner will be available for a fee. To register, contact the
OCA at 573-874-6386 or oca at GoColumbiaMo.com. The Accidental Arts
Administrator is a program of Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the
Arts (VLAA) in St. Louis.

GET A MISSOURI ARTS COUNCIL GRANT!
Want to receive funding for your nonprofit arts event from the Missouri
Arts Council? Attend a free workshop for those seeking help with the
application...November 18, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Activity & Recreation
Center (ARC), 1701 W. Ash Street. Participants will learn: what the
requirements are for applying, what funding programs are available, what
expenses can be funded, what criteria should be addressed, how to
present a project successfully, how to send effective support materials
and how panelists review applications. For more information or to
register, contact Marie Berens at marie.berens at ded.mo.gov or
866-407-4752 (toll free) or the OCA at 573-874-6386 or
