Office of Cultural Affairs Updates...

Creative Kids Family Fun Fest.....Don’t miss this annual event on
Wednesday, September 21, 6 to 8 p.m. in Flat Branch Park (Fourth and
Cherry and Locust Streets). The event will feature free participatory
art activities and kid-friendly performances of music, theatre and
dance, all free. Local arts groups participating include Access Arts -
School of Service, the Columbia Art League, Missouri Contemporary
Ballet, Odyssey Chamber Music Series, PACE (Performing Arts in
Children’s Education) and TRYPS (Theater Reaching Young People and
Schools). The event is a collaboration of the city’s OCA and Parks and
Recreation Department with financial assistance provided by the Missouri

Commemorative Poster Unveiled…..Congratulations go to Ed Ailor whose
photograph titled Booches-1884 has been unveiled as the 2011 Columbia
Commemorative Poster. The work was selected from 171 images submitted by
28 Missouri artists through a jury process. Ailor, born in Cape
Girardeau, Mo., spent most of his 43 years in town practicing medicine.
In 2005 he and his son formed Ailor Fine Art Photography (AFAP). Ailor
says, “When I think of landmarks in and around Columbia one of the
many that come to mind is Booches.” The 2011 Columbia Commemorative
Poster can be purchased at Deck the Walls in the Columbia Mall and at
1305 Grindstone Parkway, or at the city’s OCA, 1 S. 7th Street.
