Over 1,300 volunteers have pre-registered for citywide trash pickup
(COLUMBIA, MO) - The city of Columbia's Office of Volunteer
Services reports that over 1,300 volunteers from 137 groups have
pre-registered to participate in this Saturday's Cleanup Columbia
event. Volunteers will be throughout Columbia Saturday morning picking
up litter. Following trash pickup, volunteers are invited to a picnic
lunch at Twin Lakes Recreation Area.
This is the eighth Cleanup Columbia event. Over the past five
years, an average of 1,000 volunteers have participated annually from
100 groups, resulting in an average of 1,094 bags of trash picked up and
2,067 hours of volunteer time.
Cleanup Columbia is sponsored by APAC-Missouri Division, Atkins,
CenturyTel, the Columbia Daily Tribune, 102.3 BXR and KOMU NBC 8.
