Columbia Regional Airport receives new aircraft crash rescue vehicle
COLUMBIA, MO (July 9, 2004) -- Columbia Regional Airport (COU) received its new aircraft rescue fire fighting (ARFF) vehicle earlier this week. Manufactured to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) specifications by the E-One Corporation of Ocala, Fla., the new vehicle replaces two older ARFF vehicles which have become costly and difficult to maintain. The city of Columbia will retain the older of the two trucks being replaced as a secondary response vehicle, and will dispose of the other through government surplus channels. The new truck was secured with an FAA grant that covers 90 percent of the cost. The grant comes from the Department of Transportation's aviation trust fund, paid for by commercial aviation user fees.
Columbia Regional Airport is one of 429 primary airports (airports with regularly scheduled commercial airline service), all of which must meet rigorous FAA safety standards. The ARFF response equipment and capability represented by the new vehicle is required of all similar non-hub or larger commercial airports. COU receives and services four daily round trip flights on AmericanConnection® that interconnect with American Airlines flights to several hundred destinations through St. Louis Lambert International Airport. COU also offers all corporate and general aviation services through private businesses located at the Airport.
Columbia Regional Airport services a collective population of 330,000 in Mid-Missouri communities that include Columbia (13.3 miles from Airport), Jefferson City (18 miles) and the Lake of the Ozarks (80 miles). Backed by a history of reliability and convenience, Columbia Regional Airport has been providing service to more than 500 destinations for over 35 years.
