Columbia Transit's new routes
(COLUMBIA, MO) - Columbia Mayor Darwin Hindman will kick off
Columbia Transit's new routes and expansion with a proclamation
reading and presentation Monday, June 7, at 12 p.m. at the Wabash
Station at 126. N. Tenth Street. The public is invited to attend.
	Major changes include:
The Downtown Orbiter - The Downtown Orbiter will be the critical
component of Columbia Transit. It will help to eliminate traffic
congestion in the central city and MU campus areas. The Downtown Orbiter
will run through downtown Columbia and the MU campus every 15 minutes
during peak morning and afternoon hours. This is the only bus in our
system that will run every 15 minutes - instead of every 40 minutes
during peak hours.	The Theater Route - The Theater Route is our
most requested route. Now, Columbia Transit has service to both
Hollywood Theaters and Forum 8 Theaters. Moviegoers can ride the
Theater Route Thursday & Friday nights or anytime on Saturday.
Route Expansion - Columbia Transit's Red & Orange Routes are
expanding. The Red Route will now service HyVee, Moberly Community
College, Fairview Clinics and Crossroads Shopping Center in the Broadway
West area. Columbia Transit's growth doesn't stop there. South of
town, riders on the Orange Route can now go to the Social Security
office and the license bureau in the Buttonwood area.
Columbia Transit's new routes will not add any extra costs to
the city of Columbia taxpayers. Ridership is up by nearly 25,000 people.
Last fiscal year, more than 470,000 people utilized the Columbia Transit
system.
