Bio - Billy Lee, Old-Time Fiddler
Billy Lee lives in Wright City and is a well-known fiddler,
entertainer, and luthier. John Hartford remembered Billy as one of the
fiddlers who inspired him to learn to play fiddle. Billy comes from an
old Missouri German and English family and his music reflects the
ancient strains of these traditions as well as bluegrass and country
classics, Tin Pan Alley tunes, and Chubby Wise's hot fiddle pieces.
Billy's band, The Tune Twisters, was a mainstay of the dance scene.
Billy is a luthier whose mandolins and violins are in demand. He has
recently recorded a CD of his tunes which was produced by Howard
Marshall, local fiddler and music historian.
Jordan Wax of Columbia, will be backing Billy up for these old-time
square dances. Jordan has been studying fiddle and back-up from famed
fiddler, Fred Stoneking for two years.
