Representative Wilson 'walks to school' Nov. 12

(COLUMBIA, MO) - Ridgeway Elementary School students and parents
are encouraged to walk/bike to and from school on "Walk to School
Day" Friday, Nov. 12.
State Representative Vicky Riback Wilson, whose children are
former students of Ridgeway, will accompany a group of children, parents
and teachers on a walk to school that morning. The walk will start from
the "staging post" in the north parking lot of the Daniel Boone
Regional Library. This "staging post" will be set up for students
who do not live close enough to school to walk from their homes. The
group will meet in the parking lot at 8 a.m. and will set off walking to
school in groups between 8 and 8:15 a.m.
This event is held in conjunction with the Active Living By
Design project of the PedNet Coalition. Active Living By Design is a
project designed to increase physical activity among Columbia residents
by looking at environmental and policy issues, in addition to addressing
barriers to physical activity.
About 300 students of Grant and Russell Boulevard Elementary
Schools participated in "Walk to School" events last month.
