Deadline nears for Diversity Awards nominations

COLUMBIA, MO (November 23, 2004) -- The Columbia Values Diversity
Celebration committee continues to accept nominations for the 8th Annual
Columbia Values Diversity Awards. The deadline for submitting
nominations is Friday, Dec. 3, at noon. Last year's honorees were George
Frissel, Clyde Ruffin and State Farm Insurance Companies. Posthumous
awards were presented in honor of Muriel Battle and George Brooks.

Nomination forms are available by contacting the Office of Community
Services at (573) 874-7488 (V/TTY) or on the city's Internet site at
www.GoColumbiaMo.com. (GoWord: GoDiversityCelebration)

The two award categories are (1) individual/family and (2)
organization/group. 

These awards will be presented to those who have had significant impact
in our community in promoting appreciation for diversity and cultural
understanding and whose work in our community exemplifies the life and
teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., in fostering individual
dignity, racial equality, understanding, peacemaking, and solving
problems through non violence.

The awards will be presented at the Columbia Values Diversity
Celebration on Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Holiday Inn Select Expo
Center.
