Children's activities at the Columbia Festival of the Arts

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The thirteenth annual Columbia Festival of the
Arts will feature a special Children's Art Area and stage, as well as
other participatory art activities for the enjoyment of children of all
ages. All performances and art activities are free.
The Children's Stage will have performances of storytelling,
interactive theater, puppetry and music. New this year will be
performances by Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre, Inc. and Brian Cox, who
will demonstrate string games and origami (Japanese paper folding). The
Children's Stage performances provide a combination of music, visual
art and drama.
Also for the first time, visitors to the Festival can
participate in painting The Monster Mural. The 20-foot by 6-foot mural
will depict landmarks in Columbia and will appeal to all ages.
Additionally, artwork by Columbia Public Schools students will be on
display in the lobby of the Boone County Government Building.
This year's Festival will again provide a creative outlet for
budding writers at the magnetic Poetry Wall. Based on the retail success
of the smaller magnetic poetry kits made for use on refrigerators, the
wall has more than 1,700 magnetic word tiles. As with the retail hit,
the magnetic format allows participants to arrange and rearrange words
on metal surfaces to express thoughts. The Poetry Wall is a free
participatory art activity at the Festival.
The Festival is free and open to the public. It will be held at
the Boone County Courthouse Square and surrounding streets in downtown
Columbia on Sept. 25-26. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both
days.
For specific performance times and stage locations, consult the
special Festival insert in the Columbia Daily Tribune's Sept. 23
issue, contact the Office of Cultural Affairs at (573) 874-6386, e-mail
Festival at GoColumbiaMo.com or log on to www.GoColumbiaMo.com (GoWord:
GoArtsFestival).
