Online auction Web site
									
	(COLUMBIA, MO) - Interested in purchasing an item from the city
of Columbia's surplus equipment inventory? The city is pleased to
announce the debut of an online Web site for disposing of its surplus
property.
	"In the past we have received a lot of interest from citizens
wanting to know how they can purchase surplus property," said Tony St.
Romaine, purchasing agent. "With this new Web site, citizens will now
have the opportunity to hear about items as they become available, and
be able to submit bids, while at the same time maximizing the city's
revenue for this surplus material due to larger exposure of these items
via the Internet."
	Office chairs, calculators, typewriters, computer equipment and
vehicles are some of the items available for bid. To reach the online
auction site, visit the Purchasing Division's page of the city's Web
site at www.GoColumbiaMo.com and click on the online auction link or
type GoPurchasing in the GoWord box.
	The online auction site is managed through Gov Deals.com. The
method of bidding is very similar to eBay. You will obtain a registered
ID and may submit bids for materials that interest you.
	Monies received from the sale of surplus equipment are returned
to the city's general fund and to a surplus auction revenue account
for each enterprise fund that sells an item. The city is charged a 7.5
percent commission fee for the service.
