Stream Extravaganza, a watershed event!
(COLUMBIA, MO) - Don't miss the Stream Extravaganza, a
watershed event, to be held at Flat Branch Park, 4th and Broadway, on
Thursday, June 30. Festivities will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. within
walking distance from the Twilight Festival in the District. This is a
free, family event sponsored by Bass Pro, Domino's Pizza, Candy
Factory, 9th Street Bookstore, Department of Natural Resources, city of
Columbia and Boone County.
The Stream Extravaganza will feature river otters, frogs, a
giant crawdad, stream hikes, fishing poles, wildlife calls and more! See
actual footage of river otters that live within our city limits; cast a
fishing line or pick up crawdads from the crawdad pool and find out what
they eat. We'll also be identifying "Tattletale Bugs" that
indicate the health of a stream. Watershed-friendly lawn care
demonstrations and rain water gardens will be highlighted. Learn more
about the 14 streams that run through your city and how you contribute
to urban water quality. Participants will have an opportunity to sign up
for stream cleanups and storm drain decal applications. There will be
lots of prizes and fun for everyone!
Flat Branch Park is an example of urban renewal and stream
rehabilitation. Come and see how this former abandoned railway site in
the central city was transformed to a beautiful park, complete with a
meandering stream.
The Downtown Twilight Festival will be held the same evening, 6
p.m. - 8 p.m., within walking distance of the Stream Extravaganza.
