Boards and commissions applications are available
									
	(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia city clerk is accepting applications for boards and commissions. Applications must be received by the clerk's office, 701 E. Broadway, 4th Floor, by noon on Friday, June 3. Applications are available at the clerk's office or may be found on the city's Web site at www.GoColumbiaMo.com on the City Council page. The following are current boards and commissions openings:
*	The Community Development Commission has one vacancy with the term to expire Nov. 1, 2005. The member must be a resident of Ward 1 and a registered voter. Commission members shall not serve on the board of directors or be employed by any agency which applies for funding through the commission or which receives funding upon recommendation of the commission.
*	The Cultural Affairs Standing Committee On Public Art has one vacancy with the term to expire July 1, 2008. The member must be from the business community.
*	The Disabilities Commission has four vacancies with terms to expire June 15, 2008. Three members shall have a significant disability, as defined by the Americans With Disabilities Act, and one shall own or operate a business within the area. All must be residents of the city of Columbia. Monthly meetings are the second Thursday at 3 p.m.
*	The Internet Citizens Advisory Group has one vacancy with the term to expire Oct. 15, 2006. Members shall make recommendations to the staff and council on resource priority for the city's effective utilization of the Internet, in addition to serving as a focus group to assess the user-friendliness and effectiveness of the city's Internet activities.
*	The Library Board has three vacancies, to be appointed by the mayor, with terms to expire June 30, 2008. Members must reside within the Library District. Duties include appointing the librarian and overseeing expenditures of library fund monies. 
*	The Board of Mechanical Examiners has two vacancies with terms to expire June 17, 2008. One member shall be a HVACR journeyman mechanic and one shall be a general contractor not in the HVACR business. The board is empowered to give examinations for mechanical heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration licenses and certificates. Meetings are on call.
*	The Board of Plumbing Examiners has one vacancy with the term to expire May 31, 2007. The member must be a layperson and a registered voter. Monthly meetings are 5 p.m. the last Tuesday of the month.
*	The Railroad Advisory Board has two vacancies with terms to expire July 15, 2009. Members shall have knowledge and interest in either railroad, shipping, transportation or business, and shall be sympathetic with the principle of municipal ownership and operation of branch line railroads. Monthly meetings are the second Thursday at 7:30 a.m.
*	The Water & Light Advisory Board has one vacancy with the term to expire June 30, 2009. The member shall be a qualified voter and resident of the city at least one year prior to appointment. The board advises on matters pertaining to operations of the Water & Light system. Monthly meetings are on call.
