Fire at 3-M Company damage estimated at $2 million

COLUMBIA, MO (November 21, 2005) -- Columbia Fire Department
investigators and 3-M officials continue to work towards determining the
cause of a fire in a platting machine in the plant located at 5400 Paris
Rd.

3-M officials have stated that the damage to equipment and lost
production time will reach or exceed $2 million.

It should be stressed, that damage would have been higher without the
early discharge of the automatic fire sprinkler system and the early
notification to fire crews through the automatic fire alarm system.

Fire crews supported the efforts of 3-M industrial hygienists
throughout the night at the plant and continued the investigation this
afternoon.
