Updated tax information shows city of Columbia tax rates as low to
moderate
COLUMBIA, MO (October 6, 2005) -- The city of Columbia ranks favorably
in the areas of sales and property taxes when compared to other Missouri
cities with populations of more than 10,000. The rankings reflect
updated information provided by the Missouri Department of Revenue.
Of the 65 cities in Missouri with populations of more than 10,000, 34
cities have rates equal to or greater than Columbia's sales tax, and
45 cities have property tax rates equal to or greater than
Columbia's.
Columbia's sales tax is 7.35 cents (combines state, county and city).
The city's share is two cents of the 7.35 cents. The city's property
tax levy is $0.41 per $100 of assessed valuation.
"The statewide ranking of cities of 10,000 population or more shows
that Columbia's sales and property tax rates are in the low to
moderate range," said Raymond A. Beck, city manager. "Columbia is
fortunate that our total tax rates have been kept as low as possible,
while providing for programs and projects to serve all our residents and
visitors to our city."
The sales and property tax comparisons are attached and can be accessed
on the Missouri Department of Revenue Web site.
