Parks and Rec to offer lifeguard training

COLUMBIA, MO (October 24, 2005) -- Columbia Parks and Recreation is
offering lifeguard training classes for anyone interested in becoming a
lifeguard or swimming lesson instructor. 

The training, provided through Ellis and Associates, will be held from
5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 4 and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 5-6 at
Hickman Pool. The cost is $150. Individuals must attend all three
classes to become licensed as a lifeguard. 

Lifeguards who are certified through other programs such as American
Red Cross or Star Guard can attend a "cross-over" recertification
class from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 5. The cost of the recertification
class is $75.

The Parks and Recreation Department is offering the classes to help
individuals receive the proper training for employment with the city of
Columbia as a lifeguard. Positions are available for the winter at the
ARC and Hickman Pool. 

For more information about the classes, please call 874-7467. To
register for the class, call the ARC at 874-7700 or the downtown Parks
and Recreation office at 874-7460.
