Community collaborates to open disaster recovery center

COLUMBIA, MO (September 8, 2005) -- The Community Organizations Active
in Disaster (COAD) is opening a disaster recovery center (DRC). The COAD
consists of local agencies, schools and churches. The Red Cross Shelter
located at 606 Ridgeway Ave. is now closed; however, the Red Cross
Service Center will be part of the DRC. 

The DRC will be located at the Boone County Community Partnership
office, Parkade Center, 601 Bus. Loop 70 W, Suite 217 C, on the north
side of the building. The hours of operation will be determined seven
days a week. To contact the DRC call (573) 256-1890.

"This center will serve as a single point of contact for people who
need many different services," said James McNabb, Columbia/Boone
County Emergency Management director.

The DRC will offer an opportunity for evacuees to receive a variety of
services at one location. Services provided at the DRC include food
vouchers, housing options, employment opportunities, access to
transportation, clothing and health assessments/counseling. 

Citizens interested in donating their time, goods and financial
considerations should contact the Boone County Community Partnership and
ask for the Disaster Recovery Center at (573) 256-1890.
