Rail track maintenance to close portions of city streets next week
(COLUMBIA, MO) - On Monday, April 10, the Columbia Terminal
Railroad (COLT) will make repairs to its rail crossing on Brown Station
Road in Columbia. The Brown Station Road crossing, located near the
North County Shopping Center, will be restricted to one westbound lane
after the morning traffic rush period and should be reopened before the
evening rush period. Repair work is expected to take approximately four
hours to complete.
Also on Monday, April 10, the COLT will close Fay Street,
between Wilkes Boulevard and Hinkson Street, at the rail crossing. The
Fay Street crossing will be closed for two days. COLT expects to reopen
the street on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 12 upon completion of the
track repairs.
On Wednesday, April 12, COLT will close Wilkes Boulevard at the
rail crossing, between College Avenue and Paris Road, for two days while
repairs to the track are completed. COLT expects to reopen the street on
Thursday, April 13, at the end of the day.
The COLT repair work is part of the railroad's maintenance
plan. Well maintained tracks are an important part of the railroad's
ability to make deliveries. The repairs will also enable motorists to
travel over the tracks in a smoother fashion. Motorists are encouraged
to find alternate routes in these areas while the construction is taking
place.
Weather conditions could change the timeline associated with the
rail repair work projects.
The COLT is a short line railroad owned and operated by Columbia
Water & Light and provides railroad freight service to Columbia and the
mid-Missouri area.
