Boards and commissions applications are available
(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia city clerk is accepting
applications for boards and commissions. Applications must be received
by the clerk's office, 701 E. Broadway, 4th Floor, by noon on Friday,
May 5. Applications are available at the clerk's office or may be
found on the city's Web site at www.GoColumbiaMo.com on the City
Council page. The following are current boards and commissions
openings:
The Board of Adjustment has two vacancies - one for a regular member to
expire May 1, 2010 and one for an alternate member (who will serve in
the absence of a regular member) to expire Nov. 1, 2007. Members are
responsible for hearing and deciding appeals where it is alleged there
is an error in any order, requirement, decision or determination made by
an administrative official in the enforcement of zoning, planning and
subdividing ordinances. Members must be city residents. Monthly meetings
are held on the second Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Building Construction Codes Commission has two vacancies for
alternate members with one term (fire prevention) to expire Aug. 1, 2008
and one term (landlord) to expire Aug. 1, 2007. Alternate members serve
in the absence of regular members. The commission periodically reviews
and makes recommendations relating to building construction codes.
Monthly meetings are the fourth Monday at 4:30 p.m.
The Disabilities Commission has four vacancies with terms to expire
June 15, 2009. Two members shall have a significant disability, as
defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act, one shall own or operate
businesses within the Columbia area and one shall have particular
knowledge or experience in providing services to individuals with
disabilities or an interest in the welfare of city residents with
disabilities. All must be residents of the city of Columbia. The
commission considers concerns relating to residents with disabilities.
Monthly meetings are held the second Thursday at 3 p.m.
The Environment & Energy Commission has two vacancies with terms to
expire June 1, 2009. Both must be residents of the city, as well as
registered voters. The commission serves in an advisory capacity for all
matters pertaining to environmental protection. Monthly meetings are
held on the fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Housing Authority Board has one vacancy to be appointed by the
mayor with the term to expire May 31, 2010. The member shall have
resided in the city for five years immediately prior to appointment,
shall be a taxpayer and shall hold no other office or position in the
city government.
The Board of Mechanical Examiners has two vacancies with terms to
expire June 17, 2009. One member shall be a registered professional
engineer and one shall be a mechanical heating, ventilation, air
conditioning and refrigeration contractor or master mechanic. The board
is empowered to give examinations for mechanical heating, ventilation,
air conditioning and refrigeration licenses and certificates. Meetings
are on call.
The Parks & Recreation Commission has three vacancies with terms to
expire May 31, 2009. One member is needed from Ward 1, Ward 5 and Ward
6. All must be registered voters of their respective wards. The
commission acts in an advisory capacity in all matters pertaining to
public recreation. Monthly meetings are held on the third Thursday at 7
p.m.
The Planning & Zoning Commission has two vacancies with terms to expire
May 31, 2011. Both shall be registered voters and residents of the city
at least one year immediately prior to appointment and both shall hold
no other office or position in city government. The commission makes
recommendations relating to planning and zoning issues. Meetings are
held Thursdays, following Council meeting Mondays, at 7 p.m.
The Board of Plumbing Examiners has three vacancies with one term to
expire May 31, 2007 and two terms to expire May 31, 2008. Two members
shall be laypersons and the other shall be a journeyman plumber. All
must be registered, qualified voters. The board establishes standards
and procedures for the qualification, examination and licensing of
master, journeyman, residential and apprentice plumbers, and issues
certificates of competency, as appropriate. Monthly meetings are held at
5 p.m. the last Tuesday.
