Media Reminder: Ground-Breaking Will Honor Heritage, Build for the
Future

COLUMBIA, MO (August 7, 2006 )

WHAT: Columbia Mayor Darwin Hindman, US Senator Christopher “Kit”
Bond, Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Region VII Administrator
Mokhtee Ahmad and City Public Works Director John Glascock will launch a
construction project designed to preserve the historic Wabash Station,
improve bus services and adequately house Transit staff.

WHEN: Tuesday, August 8, 3 p.m.

WHERE: Historic Wabash Station, 10th and Ash Streets (outdoors, at east
end of parking lot behind the station).

PROGRAM: Remarks from all four officials and turning of the first
spade-full of dirt.

BACKGROUND:

The project has an estimated completion date of May 2007.

Construction funding comes through an 80-20, federal-local matching
arrangement. This includes a $2.3 million federal earmark secured by
Senator Bond.

Project will include works by Columbia painter David Spear and
Hartsburg metal artist Don Asbee, funded though the City’s “Percent
for Art” set-aside for art in public places.
