Twilight fun at Flat Branch Park
COLUMBIA, MO (August 30, 2006) -- Thursdays in September will offer fun
for all ages in downtown Flat Branch Park! From a movie to karaoke to a
circus, the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with
the Convention and Visitors Bureau to provide family entertainment
during each Twilight Festival. Flat Branch Park is located at 4th and
Cherry.
September 7 - Flat Branch Outdoor Cinema Series presents "O Brother
Where Art Thou?" (PG-13); preceded by Ironweed bluegrass band.
Sponsored by Flat Branch Pub & Brewing and U.S. Cellular, and presented
by Columbia Parks and Recreation, Columbia Daily Tribune, Convention &
Visitors Bureau, and Ragtag Cinema. Ironweed will perform from 6-8
p.m. followed by the movie at 8:15 p.m. Cost of admission for the movie
is $3; children 6 and under are free. Bring your blanket and enjoy the
last movie of the summer!
September 14 - Twilight Karaoke: Join us for this fun filled night of
karaoke. Participants are required to register. Please call Erin
Carrillo with Parks and Recreation at 874-6341 or
edcarril at gocolumbiamo.com. Walk-ups will be accepted if time allows.
Prizes available for teens who adapt song lyrics to a positive message.
Co-sponsored by Youth Community Coalition.
September 21 - Stream Extravaganza: Its an evening of fun, frogs,
fishing poles, learning & magic for the whole family. Learn more about
the 14 streams that run through your city and the wildlife that depends
on those streams. Plus you can watch actual footage of river otters that
live within our city limits, cast a fishing line, pick up a crawdad and
much more. Over 20 fun activities for all ages. Stream Extravaganza is
sponsored by the city of Columbia Public Works, Boone County Public
Works and Bass Pro Shops.
September 28 - Flat Branch Circus: Back by popular demand; if you
missed out on the last couple of years, heres your chance to join in
on the fun. Enjoy rousing circus music from the Big Top Circus Band,
complete with ringmaster. Watch as Ann Gafkes performing dogs play
musical chairs, do an agility course and more.
