Visioning BIG Meeting #2 is opportunity to make a difference

COLUMBIA, MO (December 6, 2006) -- While the Visioning BIG meeting #2 was postponed a week due to severe winter weather, Vision Committee co-chairs are optimistic that the delay has allowed vision ambassadors more time to reach even more citizens.

A near record snowfall forced Imagine Columbia’s Future organizers to reschedule BIG meeting #2 to Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Rock Bridge High School, 4303 S. Providence Road.

“I feel the momentum growing as the community begins to embrace and buy into this visioning process,” said Jeffrey Williams, Vision Committee co-chair. “Participation in the first BIG meeting was outstanding - with more than 300 participants - and it gave me a renewed sense of purpose and the belief that the citizens of the community are indeed interested in taking Columbia to the next level.”

“This next BIG meeting is very important to the visioning process as citizens begin to discuss issues that will lay the groundwork for a shared vision of what Columbia should be in the future,” added Vision Committee Co-Chair M. Dianne Drainer. “We appreciate everyone’s patience with the rescheduling of this meeting and we are hopeful that the additional week has been beneficial in spreading the word about our visioning efforts to even more people.”

The BIG Meeting is designed to be as open and accessible as possible. Children are welcome to attend with their parents, and people can dress for comfort. Transportation is available - even for citizens with special needs. Interpreters will be available for hearing-impaired persons.

The BIG Meeting will open with a brief welcome for the whole assembly of citizens. People will be assigned to small discussion groups where all ideas will be recorded. There will be no single-topic groups at the BIG Meetings. Before adjourning, BIG Meeting participants will hear brief reports from all the discussion groups. Ideas recorded at the BIG Meeting will lay the foundation for the community vision.
