FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 1, 2006
CONTACT: Dan Dasho
Director of Columbia Water and Light
Office - (573) 874-7325
Renewable Energy Status Report available online
(COLUMBIA, MO) - Energy generated from a renewable source
started flowing into Columbia in the beginning of 2005, with more to
come, all at a reasonable price. This and other details of fulfilling
the 2004 Renewable Energy Ordinance are outlined in a Columbia Water and
Light report released to the public today.
Members of the Columbia City Council, the Water and Light
Advisory Board and the Energy Environment Commission all received the
2006 Columbia Water and Light Renewable Energy Report. Citizens can
either download the report on the city's Web site at
www.GoColumbiaMo.com or call 874-7325 and request a copy be mailed to
them.
The report documents the activities and steps being taken to
meet the ordinance mandate of two percent of Columbia's electric
supply be generated from renewable sources in 2008. One plan is to
construct a Renewable Fuels Facility at the Columbia landfill. Energy
would be produced from the biogas released from the landfill and fed
into Columbia's system. The utility also issued a request for
proposals for renewable energy in November of 2005 and two companies
responded. Columbia Water and Light has started contract negotiations
and plans to forward a recommendation at the end of February or
beginning of March 2006.
