1st Annual Chili Cook-off - A benefit for the George Peak Memorial Burn
Center

COLUMBIA, MO (February 21, 2006) -- The University Club, the Columbia
Fire Department, and the Columbia Professional Fire Fighters Association
have teamed up for the 1st Annual Chili Cook-Off. The event will occur
on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the University
Club in the Reynolds Alumni Center. All eight Columbia fire stations
will present their own version of "Fire House Chili" and diners will
judge each of the station's entries. A "winner" will be announced and
receive a traveling trophy. The University Club will donate $900 from
the event to the George Peak Memorial Burn Center at the University
Hospitals and Clinics to be used to purchase needed equipment for the
treatment of burn injuries.

Traditionally, each fire station has been known for one or two of the
station members being "designated" as the "head chef" at that station.
Dishes often take on a life of their own as ingredients to traditional
recipes are tweaked to make them just right for the hearty appetites of
firefighters.

For this event, each station was asked to provide two gallons of Fire
House Chili. With three shifts, some stations had to toss a coin to see
what chili recipe would be submitted for this year's event. Many
stations have been cooking the chili for a day or two already so that
the chili has a chance to setup and attain its peak flavor.

Columbia firefighters and members of the Columbia Professional Fire
Fighters will be on hand at the event to talk to the attendees about the
unique chili recipes and to listen to what the guests think about the
flavor of their entry.

The event is open to University Club members and guests. A number of
tickets have been donated to the George Peak Memorial Burn Center staff
so that they may attend.
