Morning crash injures one

COLUMBIA, MO (July 25, 2006) -- Columbia firefighters responded to a
report of an extrication crash on US Highway 63 North at the Mexico
Gravel Road overpass in the northbound lanes. Firefighters and
paramedics arrived to find one vehicle, a flatbed truck, had left the
highway and came to rest in a grove of locust trees. 

The single passenger in the passenger vehicle was trapped. Firefighters
removed the front door of the vehicle with hydraulic tools and were
forced to cut tress down to free the occupant. The driver was
transported to the University Hospitals as a class two trauma with
possible life-threatening injuries. 

Two engine companies and one heavy rescue squad from the Columbia Fire
Department, one engine from the Boone County Fire Protection District,
one ambulance and several staff vehicles responded to the call. 

The US Highway 63 northbound driving lane was closed for more than two
hours while firefighters, paramedics and police officers worked the
scene of the crash.

Columbia police are investigating the cause and will issue a separate
release at a later time.
