Hershey Track and Field Youth Program scheduled

COLUMBIA, MO (March 20, 2006) -- Youth between the ages of 9 and 14
will have the chance to get an early start in track and field through
the Hershey Track and Field Youth Program. 

The program, being planned by Columbia's Parks and Recreation
Department, is designed to introduce kids to different track events. The
event will be held May 13 at the Rock Bridge High School track. There is
no cost to participate, but youth must pre-register. 

Participants will be asked to check in that day at 9 a.m. and the meet
will start at 10 a.m. Events will include dashes of 50, 100, 200, 400,
800 and 1600 meters; 4x100 meter relay; standing long jump and softball
throw. Local winners will be eligible for the state meet in Jefferson
City and then some regional winners will earn the opportunity to advance
to the finals in Hershey, Pennsylvania. 

Registration will run through May 10. Registration forms are available
at the Parks and Recreation office at One South Seventh, the Armory
Sports Center at 701 East Ash and the ARC at 1701 West Ash.
