City will hold public meetings on draft Sidewalk Master Plan
COLUMBIA, MO (November 9, 2006) -- The city of Columbia will hold three
public meetings on a draft Sidewalk Master Plan, a document that
identifies proposed locations for new sidewalk projects along major
roadways and routes to school.
Meeting dates and locations are:
* Thursday, Nov. 16, from 6:30-8 p.m.
Media Center, Russell Boulevard Elementary School
1800 West Rollins Road
* Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 6:30-8 p.m.
Media Center, Parkade Elementary School
111 Parkade Boulevard
* Thursday, December 6, from 6:30-8 p.m.
Media Center, Mill Creek Elementary School
2200 Nifong Boulevard West
According to city Planning and Development Director Tim Teddy, the
meetings are designed to get public input before taking a final
recommendation to the City Council. Were prepared to explain the
draft plan, listen to citizens and respond to their questions.
Teddy said that the draft plan includes sidewalk locations proposed by
the city as well as priorities identified by Columbia Public Schools.
The joint work on the plan led to meeting locations at school sites.
We appreciate the opportunity to host these sessions at school
buildings, Teddy said. Sidewalks are the most important part of
the transportation system where children are concerned.
The Columbia sidewalk plan was last revised in 1997. When finally
approved, the plan will provide guidance to the City Council for
sidewalk project funding. Citizens can get more information at the
