Festival to celebrate the arts
COLUMBIA, MO (September 6, 2006) -- The fifteenth annual Columbia
Festival of the Arts will bring performing, visual and literary artists
to downtown Columbia Sept. 23-24.
Fifty artists will exhibit and sell their work, ranging from ceramics,
drawing/pastels, fiber, glass, jewelry, metal works, mixed media,
painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and wood. Artwork by
Columbia students, elementary through senior high school, will be on
display in the Boone County Government Center.
More than 40 performances of dance, music, theater and storytelling
will take
place on two stages. A third stage will feature local authors and will
focus on the literary arts.
Activities for children at the Festival will include painting,
performances of
childrens theater, storytelling, comedy, juggling, interactive
drumming and the
creation of a giant mural. Food vendors will also be on hand.
The Festival is free and open to the public. It will be held at the
Boone County
Courthouse Square and surrounding streets in downtown Columbia on
Sept. 23-24. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
