Boards and commissions applications are available 
									
	(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia city clerk is accepting
applications for boards and commissions. Applications must be received
by the clerk’s office, 701 E. Broadway, 4th Floor, by noon on Friday,
Oct. 6. Applications are available at the clerk’s office or may be
found on the city’s Web site at www.GoColumbiaMo.com on the City
Council page. The following are current boards and commissions
openings:
*	The Board of Adjustment has one vacancy for an alternate member
(to serve in the absence of a regular member, with the term to expire
Nov. 1, 2011. The board is responsible for hearing and deciding appeals
where it is alleged there is an error in any order, requirement,
decision or determination made by an administrative official in the
enforcement of the zoning, planning and subdividing ordinances. Monthly
meetings are held on the second Tuesday at 7 p.m.
*	The Building Construction Codes Commission has two vacancies for
alternate members (to serve in the absence of the regular members) in
the following categories: residential rental property owner (term to
expire Aug. 1, 2007) and person experienced in fire prevention (term to
expire Aug. 1, 2008).  
*	The Community Services Advisory Commission has one vacancy with
the term to expire Dec. 31, 2007. The member must be a qualified voter
and resident of the city. Members shall not serve on the board of
directors or be employed by an agency which applies for funding through
the commission or which receives funding upon recommendation of the
commission. The commission advises the city and county in all matters
regarding the planning and contracting for human service programs to
adequately meet the needs of the citizens. Monthly meetings are held the
third Tuesday at 7 p.m.
*	The Community Development Commission has two vacancies with
terms to expire Nov. 1, 2009. One member is needed from Ward 4 and one
member may be from any ward. All must be qualified voters of the city.
Members shall not serve on the board of directors or be employed by any
agency which applies for funding through the commission or which
receives funding upon recommendation of the commission. The commission
acts in an advisory capacity in all matters pertaining to community
development. Monthly meetings are held on call.
*	The Convention And Visitors Advisory Board has one vacancy with
the term to expire Sept. 30, 2007. The member must be an owner or
operator of a hotel or motel within the city limits and shall have
demonstrated by past activities an interest in the convention and
tourism business. The board shall advise the city on the use of the
funds created by the hotel and motel tax. Monthly meetings are held the
last Monday at 12 p.m.
*	The Cultural Affairs Commission has four vacancies with terms to
expire Nov. 1, 2009. One member must be involved in elementary or
secondary education and three members must have significant knowledge
and an interest in the arts.  Members shall not serve on the board of
directors or be employed by any agency which applies for funding through
the commission or which receives funding upon recommendation of the
commission. The commission advises the Council in all matters pertaining
to the arts and cultural environment of the city. Monthly meetings held
the second Monday at 4:15 p.m.  
*	The Disabilities Commission has one vacancy with the term to
expire June 15, 2009. The member shall own or operate businesses within
the Columbia area and must be a resident of the city of Columbia. The
commission considers concerns relating to residents with disabilities.
Monthly meetings are held the second Thursday at 3 p.m. 
*	The Internet Citizens Advisory Group has one vacancy with the
term to expire Oct. 15, 2009. Members assess the user-friendliness and
effectiveness of the city’s Internet activities. The group makes
recommendations to the staff and Council on resource priority for the
city’s effective utilization of the Internet.  Meetings are held the
third Wednesday every other month at 5 p.m.
*	The Board of Mechanical Examiners has one vacancy with the term
to expire June 17, 2009. The member shall be a registered professional
engineer. The board is empowered to give examinations for mechanical
heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration licenses and
certificates. Meetings are held the second Tuesday every other month at
5 p.m.
*	The Personnel Advisory Board has two vacancies with terms to
expire Sept. 30, 2009. Members shall have significant, substantive
knowledge of social, legislative, political and administrative factors
affecting personnel management and employee relations. All must be
residents and registered qualified voters of the city and hold no other
lucrative position in city government during their terms. The board
advises the Council on its findings, opinions, various conclusions and
recommendations on the status of the personnel system. Meetings are held
on call.
*	The Substance Abuse Advisory Commission has two vacancies with
terms to expire Oct. 31, 2009. Both shall have demonstrated interest in
and concern for substance and alcohol abuse problems in the community.
The commission promotes coordination of programs intended to prevent and
eliminate alcohol and substance abuse. Monthly meetings held on the
second Wednesday at 12 p.m.
*	The Board of Plumbing Examiners has one vacancy with the term to
expire May 31, 2008. The member shall be a journeyman plumber and a
registered, qualified voter. The board establishes standards and
procedures for the qualification, examination and licensing of master,
journeyman, residential and apprentice plumbers, and issues certificates
of competency as appropriate.  Monthly meetings are held the last
Tuesday at 5 p.m.
