Two hundred seventy-five citizens rank 44 goals in 13 topics during
‘Exploring the Vision’ Workshop
COLUMBIA, MO (April 6, 2007) -- Forty-four broad community goals were
ranked by 275 citizens at the Exploring the Vision Workshop on April 4,
2007 at Stephens College. Results from the goal surveys will be released
as soon as all the data has been encoded.
Since January 2007, 13 Citizen Topic Groups have been working on goals
and strategies that emerged from 1,500 “Big Ideas” gathered from the
community last fall. After ranking the overall goals, workshop attendees
participated in the “Marketplace of Ideas” during which they
reviewed and commented on various strategies for each goal.
According to Dianne Drainer and Jeff Williams, co-chairs of the
Visioning Committee, the level of public attendance and dialogue was
exciting.
According to Williams, "The large turnout indicates a tremendous level
of citizen engagement in the Visioning process. This is extremely
important to its ultimate success."
Drainer was thrilled to see so much community interaction and interest.
“The amount of time everyone took to visit with members from each
topic group shows just how deeply the community cares about Columbia’s
future,” says Drainer.
Nearly 350 Citizen Topic Group volunteers will review the public
comment cards, as they continue to refine their work through June. The
community will have another chance to review the Vision plan this summer
during the Community Choices event.
