Twilight fun at Flat Branch Park
COLUMBIA, MO (August 24, 2007) - Thursdays in September will offer fun
for all ages in downtown Flat Branch Park! From a movie to live music to
a circus to the Commerce Bank Kids Camp, the Columbia Parks and
Recreation Department has teamed up with the Convention and Visitors
Bureau and The District to provide family entertainment during each
Twilight Festival. Flat Branch Park is located at 4th and Cherry.
September 7—Stream Extravaganza and Commerce Bank Kids Camp (6-8 pm)
followed by movie
It’s an evening of fun, frogs, fishing poles, learning & more for the
whole family! “DeeBee the Conservation Clown” will create aquatic
balloon critters and make flowers magically appear. You’ll find out
more about the 14 streams that run through your city and the wildlife
that depends on those streams. There will be more than 20 fun activities
for all ages. Flat Branch Park is an example of urban renewal and stream
rehabilitation. Come see how this former EPA cleanup site was
transformed to a beautiful park complete with a meandering stream.
Flat Branch Outdoor Cinema Series: Princess Bride (PG) at 8:15 p.m.
Following Stream Extravaganza, stick around for the last movie of the
summer! Princess Bride is sponsored by Flat Branch Pub & Brewing and
U.S. Cellular, and presented by Columbia Parks and Recreation, Columbia
Daily Tribune, Convention & Visitors Bureau and Ragtag Cinema. Cost of
admission for the movie is $3; children 6 and under are free. Bring a
lawn chair or blanket.
Sept 13 - Flat Branch Circus and Commerce Bank Kids Camp (6-8 p.m.):
Back by popular demand; if you missed out on the last couple of years,
here’s your chance to join in the fun. Enjoy rousing circus music from
the Big Top Circus Band, complete with ringmaster. Watch as Ann
Gafke’s performing dogs play musical chairs, do an agility course
and more. You can even get your face painted. Come be a part of the
excitement!
Sept 20 – Curreykorn and Commerce Bank Kids Camp (6-8 p.m.):
Curreykorn is a local family band with lots of talent. The family
performs mostly in mid-Missouri at local and regional festivals,
contests and community events. Their repertoire includes driving fiddle,
mandolin and dobro instrumentals, Missouri jig dancing, high lonesome
bluegrass and more. Curreykorn offers an upbeat musical experience
combined with a good-natured, wholesome sense of humor.
Sept 27 - The Norm Ruebling Band and Commerce Bank Kids Camp (6-8
p.m.):
Come enjoy one of the greatest local bands in Missouri. Their
repertoire consists of blues to classic rock, big band swing to country,
and jazz to soul. The band has enjoyed playing with each other for many
years, some since they were at MU together in the 70's.
