Columbia Transit supports community through ‘Ride for a Can
Day’

(COLUMBIA, MO) - Columbia Transit will team up with the Central
Missouri Food Bank to fight hunger by collecting canned food for hunger
relief agencies. On Thursday, Dec. 13, one canned good can be redeemed
for a one-way bus fare anywhere Columbia Transit goes. Haven’t tried
the city bus before? Just bring a can of food, hop on and see how easy
it is for just the cost of one can. Do you already ride the bus? Save
your FastPass for another day and bring a can of food to help those in
need.
“We’re asking all residents to get on board with this
worthwhile effort and help contribute toward those in our community who
are in need” said Ken Koopmans, transportation manager for the city of
Columbia. “You don’t have to take the bus to help out. You can still
make a difference by dropping off canned goods at the Wabash Station at
126 N. 10th St. on Dec. 13.”
All canned goods collected will be donated to the Central
Missouri Food Bank. The Central Missouri Food Bank is a regional network
providing disaster and hunger relief through 145 agencies such as soup
kitchens, shelters for the homeless and abused, food pantries, senior
programs and children’s feeding programs in 33 counties in central and
northeast Missouri. The Central Missouri Food Banks serves an average of
80,000 people in need per month. For additional information about the
Central Missouri Food Bank, please visit the Web site at
www.centralmofoodbank.org or call (800) 764-FOOD.
Columbia Transit will still accept cash or FastPasses for bus
fare on Dec. 13 as well. For questions about the Columbia Transit routes
and schedule or “Ride for a Can Day,” visit the city’s Web site at
www.GoColumbiaMo.com (search: go bus) or call
(573) 874-7282.
