Sidewalk cleaning ordinance being enforced

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The city of Columbia Public Works Department
reminds citizens to clean snow and ice from their sidewalks. The Public
Works Department is responsible for insuring public safety, and after
receiving several sidewalk complaints, has begun enforcement. Staff from
the Protective Inspection Division will make rounds this week to ensure
compliance with Chapter 24 of the Columbia Code of Ordinances, Section
24-12 Cleaning Sidewalks. The ordinance states individuals and
businesses are required to keep sidewalks in front of, or adjacent to,
the property or premises owned or occupied by them clear of snow and
ice. For more information or to view the entire ordinance, citizens can
go online to www.GoColumbiaMo.com, or call the Public Works Department
at (573) 874-7250.
