Firefighters respond to early morning fire in north-central Columbia

COLUMBIA, MO (December 31, 2007) - Columbia firefighters were called
just after 2 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, to a report of smoke coming from
a residential structure at 401 South Fifth St. First arriving fire
personnel reported heavy smoke and fire from the roof of the building. 

Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on the fire and had the
flames knocked down in less then 15 minutes. 

The structure was not occupied at the time of the fire. There were no
injuries to report. 

Fire investigators worked the scene, but have not issued an origin and
cause statement for the fire. The home was reported to be valued at
around $65,000 and fire officials estimate damage to the structure at
around $45,000.
