Gates Building demolition

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The city of Columbia Public Works Department
announces it has contracted with C.L. Richardson Construction Company of
Ashland, Mo., to begin demolition of the Gates Building at 9 North 8th
St. The Gates Building, owned by the city of Columbia, is being removed
to make way for the expanded City Hall. Regulated materials have been
removed from the Gates Building and the demolition is expected to start
within the next week.
The demolition work will result in a temporary closure of the
alley and parking spaces between the Gates Building and the Plaza
Parking Garage. Parking on the west and south side of the Gates Building
will be temporarily blocked off during the demolition, which is expected
to take a couple of weeks. Eighth Street, as well as the drive-thru lane
at the city’s utility building, will remain open during the process.
Motorists and pedestrians are urged to exercise extreme caution
when in the construction area.
