MEDIA ADVISORY FROM THE CITY OF COLUMBIA
"So Far. So Good"
COLUMBIA, MO (Date) -- Columbia Public Works and Water and Light officials say that, so far, they're keeping up with the icy weather.
Roads - According to Public Works Operations Manager Mary Ellen Lea, City cinder/salt spreaders have been over all primary streets and are working on seconday streets. Work will continue on these roads overnight. Crews are covering through-streets in subdivisions, but not dead-ends. Lea said that a bridge over Hominy Creek at St. Charles Road is missing a guardrail, but no vehicle is identified with the mishap. It's marked for safety purposes and still is passable.
Electric System - Spokeswoman Connie Kacprowicz said that no problems or outages have been reported so far. Water and Light crews are "on standby" and prepared to respond, when needed.
Contact numbers for Citizens
To report an electric power outage, call the Water and Light Department emergency number at 875-2555. This is an automated system that can handle 11 calls at a time. Call back if there’s a busy signal.
For questions about roads, call the Public Works Department at 874-6289. This reaches staff at the Grissum Building, where the road fleet is dispatched.
For fire and public safety emergencies, call 911. The call will be answered and dispatched at the Joint Communications Center.
