COLT Railroad reports quarterly traffic
(Columbia, MO) -- The Columbia Terminal Railroad (COLT) carried 682 railcar loads of freight for 17 different customers during the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2006, the first of its fiscal year. This compares favorably with the 483 carloads carried for the same period a year ago, an increase of 41.2 percent. COLTs best performance for a similar period was in 2004 when 758 carloads were handled.
On a commodity basis, COLT handled 366 carloads of steel, 137 carloads of coal, 72 carloads of chemicals, 56 carloads of petroleum, 29 carloads of lumber, 17 carloads of auto parts and related materials, four carloads of clay, concrete or stone products and one carload of rubber products.
For customers not directly on the rail line, shipments are delivered through Alternative Distribution Systems (ADS). This international company has a transload facility located on the north side of Columbia. ADS can load/unload all types of rail cars, provide warehousing, and 'just in time' delivery through their company fleet. Transload traffic accounted for 387 carloads or 56.7 percent of COLTs total traffic during the quarter. Eleven different customers were served through the rail terminal, which has been operated by ADS since Aug. 1, 2006.
The COLT is a short line railroad owned and operated by the Columbia Water and Light that provides railroad freight service to Columbia and mid-Missouri.
