Window air conditioner exchange: units still available
Central Missouri Community Action
400 Wilkes Boulevard
Columbia, Missouri
Call 573-443-8731 to schedule the exchange
(Columbia, MO) -- Columbia Water & Light has 40 energy-efficient
window air conditioners for low-income customers who need to upgrade
their old units. This program helps customers save energy and money by
replacing old, inefficient units. The Central Missouri Community Action
is partnering with the utility to screen applicants and help distribute
the air conditioners.
Low-income customers are urged to contact the CMCA-Boone County
Family Resource Center at 573-443-8731 to schedule an appointment for
the exchange. Below are the eligibility requirements for the Air
Conditioner Exchange program:
You must be a current city of Columbia utility customer
You must have an older less efficient/broken window unit to
exchange
You have an annual income of less than 150 percent of the poverty
level.
We are making these groups of people our first priority for the
exchange program:
1. 65 years of age or older
2. Receive income for a disability
3. Have children age 5 or younger living in your household
The window air conditioner exchange program has provided over 50
units to Columbia customers this summer. Columbia Water & Light’s goal
for the program is to provide a less expensive way for people to cool
their homes that might have a hard time paying their utility bills.
