Globe Sprinkler Corporation issues voluntary product recall notice
COLUMBIA, MO (June 13, 2007) - According to a report obtained from a
Web site, Globe Sprinkler Corporation has issued a voluntary product
recall notice. Globe is recalling approximately 300,000 dry fire
sprinklers. It has been determined that the sprinkler heads can
deteriorate over time and fail to operate in a fire.
Globe has received five reports of sprinklers that failed to operate as
intended during a fire. There have been no reports of injuries caused by
sprinklers failing to operate.
The sprinkler head in question is Model “J” series dry fire
sprinklers, which come in pendent (hanging down), upright and sidewall
configurations. The name “Globe,” and the letter “J” as well as
the year of manufacture (1990 - 1999) are embossed on the frame of each
sprinkler.
According to reports, the sprinklers were sold by fire protection
contractors nationwide from January 1990 through December 1999.
Consumers who have these sprinklers should contact Globe Fire Sprinkler
Corporation for additional information at 1-800-248-0278 between 8 a.m.
and 5 p.m. EST Monday through Friday or visit www.globesprinkler.com and
click on “VOLUNTARY PRODUCT RECALL NOTICE.”
Consumers in the city of Columbia who have to change sprinkler heads
should contact the Columbia Fire Marshal’s Division prior to placing
the protection system out of service for sprinkler head replacement.
