City computers find new homes
(COLUMBIA, MO) - This Saturday, 40 “used, but still useful”
city computers will find new homes in worthy Columbia households. The
city of Columbia, the Voluntary Action Center (VAC) and the Downtown
Optimist Club are partnering once again to provide surplus (used)
computers and equipment (monitors, keyboards, mouse etc.) to eligible
VAC clients as part of the “Homes For Computers Program.” Forty
computers are being given away to clients who are enrolled in programs
administered by VAC and who applied and were found eligible for the
computer giveaway.
Those clients who have applied and been found eligible have been
contacted by VAC and will receive their computer this Saturday. The
computers will be distributed to the winning clients by the Downtown
Optimist Club on Saturday, March 10, 9 a.m. to noon at the Downtown
Optimist Club building, 1201 Grand Ave.
The Homes for Computers Program was approved by City Council
December 2003. Previously, the city disposed of surplus computers
through the University of Missouri, Surplus Property Division. Donation
of the city’s computers to families in Columbia was determined to be a
much more constructive alternative for the city’s surplus computers.
This year’s program will raise the number of donated computers to
158.
Questions should be directed to Cindy Mustard, executive
director, Voluntary Action Center, (573) 449-6959.
