Will solar water heating work for you?

(COLUMBIA, MO) - On Tuesday, March 27, Columbia Water and Light
will host a solar water heating workshop. The utility is hosting the
event to promote further understanding of installing a solar water
heater. The workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the
Walton Building, 300 S. Providence.
The workshop will be conducted by Bob Ramlow, an accomplished
solar installer and author of “Solar Water Heating.” In addition to
his popular book, Ramlow has published several articles on solar energy,
including “Go Solar for Free Hot Water” in the 2007 Feb/Mar issue of
Mother Earth News.
Topics to be covered in the workshop include: fundamentals of
heating water, solar energy parameters, types of collectors, types of
solar hot water systems, freeze protection site assessment, installation
issues and economics of solar water heating. During the afternoon
session, weather permitting, a solar water heater will be demonstrated.
According to Jay Hasheider, energy services supervisor, “We
are pleased at the overwhelming interest in the community to learn more
about this renewable resource. We exceeded our limit of 40 participants
last week.”
People who are interested in this technology but did not get a
spot reserved in time are encouraged to attend Advancing Renewables in
the Midwest on Wednesday, March 28. Ramlow, as well as many other
speakers on a variety of renewable energy topics, will be presenting at
the conference. Interested parties can call Columbia Water and Light at
573-874-7325 to register for the event at the Anheuser-Busch Natural
Resources Building on the University of Missouri campus.
