Bike, Walk & Wheel Week’s Celebrity Bike/Car Challenge
(COLUMBIA, MO) - The 3rd Annual Celebrity Bike/Car Challenge
will be held Friday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at Willie’s Pub and Pool, 1109
East Broadway. The challenge is to see who will complete their list of
errands first-those on bikes or those in vehicles. This event is
designed to raise public awareness of Bike, Walk & Wheel Week and to
display the ease of commuting by bicycle.
Confirmed celebrities are:
● Mayor Darwin Hindman vs. Don Stamper
● Simon Rose vs. Fred Parry
● Ted Curtis vs. Chief Randy Boehm
● Barbara Hoppe vs. Laura Nauser
● Josh DeBerge vs. Bill Thompson
● Elliot Usher vs. Lorah Steiner
● Kurt Mirtsching vs. Bill Clark
Darren Hellwege from KBIA will be the “play-by-play”
announcer again this year. He will be providing spectators on the patio
at Willie’s Pub and Pool with funny anecdotes and/or comments from the
celebrities.
Token stops are:
● The Columbia Daily Tribune
● Cyclextreme
● Cherry St. Artisan
● DSport
● First National Bank
● Alpine Shop
● Walt’s Bicycle Fitness & Wilderness Co.
Guidelines for the celebrities include:
● Contestants will begin at staggered start times.
● Those driving vehicles must park legally and turn off ignitions.
They must also get out of their cars to pick up the tokens at each
establishment.
● Bikers must follow the rules of the road, wear helmets, avoid
riding on sidewalks downtown and lock up their bikes before entering
each establishment.
● Celebrities must participate in any additional challenge the
businesses may have set up for them before earning the coveted token.
