COLUMBIA, MO (May 21, 2007) -

When: Wednesday, May 23, 2007 from 7 - 9 p.m.

Where: City Council Chamber, 4th floor, Daniel Boone Building, 701 E.
Broadway

What: Opportunity to learn about financial tools such as Tax Increment
Financing (TIF), the Missouri Downtown and Rural Economic Stimulus Act
(MODESA), Transportation Development Districts (TDD) and state and
federal tax credit programs. Economic development professionals from
Springfield and Kansas City will discuss their experiences using these
tools in their cities.

Background:
● Last August, the City of Columbia, University of Missouri and
Stephens College met for the first time to get a “new view” of
downtown Columbia.
● This planning partnership convened several public sessions with
Sasaki Associates to identify options for making an already-vibrant
downtown become even better.
● In January, Sasaki delivered a menu of concepts for consideration.
Elm Street could be an east-west axis of opportunity for mixed uses,
including commercial and residential properties. Cultural and hotel
facilities could fill in the core and finally make the Avenue of the
Columns a stand-out landmark.
