EPA recognizes Columbia’s stormwater efforts

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The city of Columbia was recently recognized by
the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its Show Me Yards and
Neighborhood Program. Show-Me Yards was featured in the EPA’s May
2007 national newsletter, which recognizes programs around the country
that demonstrate the importance of clean water to the nation’s
ecological, economic and social health.
Hundreds of Columbia citizens participate in this
environmentally-friendly yard care program designed to reduce stormwater
runoff and improve water quality.
“The goal of our program is to raise awareness of the
importance of proper stormwater management,” said John Glascock, city
of Columbia Public Works director. “It is an honor to be recognized
for our efforts in Columbia.”
The EPA’s newsletter is available online at
www.epa.gov/newsnotes (Issue 81).
Show Me Yards and Neighborhoods workshops will be held in August for
interested citizens and lawn care companies. To learn more about the
yard care program, or how to sign up for a workshop, go to
www.GoColumbiaMo.com (search: GoSMYN), or call Mona Menezes at
573-817-6447.
