Open House planned for new nonmotorized office

COLUMBIA, MO (November 20, 2007) - The Columbia Public Works Department
invite the public to attend a special ribbon cutting ceremony
celebrating the opening of Columbia’s new nonmotorized transportation
office and the unveiling of the new project logo. An Open House will be
held on Wednesday, November 28 at 4 p.m. at 101 N. 7th Street. Citizens
will have the opportunity to tour the facility, see the unveiling of the
new program name and logo, and participate in special activities.
Chamber Ambassadors will be on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony. The
new facility and branding campaign are part of a federally funded pilot
program aimed at improving nonmotorized transportation in Columbia.
Columbia will receive $22 million over four years for infrastructure
improvements and to implement programs that encourage citizens to
incorporate walking and biking into their lives in a way that suits them
best. While most of the infrastructure plans are in the design and
engineering phase, citizens can expect to see construction beginning in
late 2008. For more information about the Open House contact the Public
Works Department at (573) 874-7250.
