Visual Artists Receive Awards at Festival
COLUMBIA, MO (Date) - Artists Frank Stack and Mary Beth St. Clair were
selected to receive awards at the 16th annual Columbia Festival of the
Arts, held this past weekend, September 29 -30.
Best of Show was awarded to painter Frank Stack of Columbia, Mo. The
Merit Award, sponsored by the city’s Commission on Cultural Affairs,
went to Mary Beth St. Clair, a jeweler from Wyaconda, MO.
The two were singled out from a field of fifty local and regional
artists who exhibited and sold their work at the Festival Saturday and
Sunday. A variety of media was represented including jewelry, wood,
watercolor, photography, clay, pastels, ceramics, sculpture, mixed
media, glass, printmaking, oil, acrylics, metal and fiber. Each artist
submitted an application to exhibit at the Festival and was chosen
through a juried process.
The Best of Show winner was selected by juror Jane Mudd, professor of
art at William Woods University in Fulton and practicing artist. Ken
Greene and Jo Donati Shaw, representatives of the city’s Commission on
Cultural Affairs, selected the Merit Award winner.
The Columbia Festival of the Arts is a program of the City of Columbia
Office of Cultural Affairs. Financial assistance has been provided by
Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Boone County National Bank, CenturyTel,
Columbia Convention & Visitors Bureau Tourism Development Fund, Columbia
Daily Tribune, Commerce Bank, Dave Griggs’ Flooring America, Days Inn
and Travelodge, Deck the Walls, KBIA 91.3, KOMU TV8/Mid-Missouri’s CW
Network, MFA Oil, Missouri Arts Council, Mid-America Arts Alliance,
National Endowment for the Arts, Regency Hotel Downtown and State Farm
Insurance.
